ESODOC-INDIA (2010)

Venue: The Lake Resort, Naukuchiatal, Uttarakhand, India

A training initiative for exchange of ideas and information between Indian and European documentary filmmakers. Supported by MEDIA International of the European Commission and organised by ZeLIG School for Documentary, Television and New Media (Bolzano, Italy) in collaboration with Formedia (New Delhi, India).

    The aim was to build an intercultural platform of collaboration to:
  • develop documentary projects with potential for the Indian and European audiovisual market in both regions
  • address media needs of the NGO sector worldwide
  • build a network of broadcasters and NGOs in Europe and India
  • look into dissemination technologies

Six European and six Indian participants brought 12 projects to the table that were discussed with 11 experts.

Two Public Online Conferences on Internet
Venue: AMREF Child Development Centre in Nairobi, Kenya

A training initiative for documentary and new media projects with social impact covering three continents of Africa, India, Europe.
Funded by Media Mundus of the European Commission and implemented by ZeLig School for Documentary, Television and New Media (Bolzano, Italy) in collaboration with AMREF Africa and Formedia (New Delhi, India).

ESoDoc International addressed to African, Indian and European filmmakers, new media professionals and NGO representatives to develop social documentary projects suitable for the International Markets. The importance was to highlight strategies and methodologies for co-operation.

    The concept of ESoDoc International was like a tree:
  • roots placed in the cultural and traditional environment of different geographical contexts
  • trunk representing technological aspects to express diverse culture (the art of storytelling, Participatory Video and New Media techniques)
  • build a network of broadcasters and NGOs in Europe and India
  • branches as the “eyes”, the cameras, looking on the outside world

LINCT

LINCT- THE PROJECT - 2009

LINCT - Leveraging International Networks for Co-Productions and Training - A project supported by the European Union’s MEDIA International Preparatory Action with the specific aim of creating a dialogue for promoting documentary co-productions between India and Europe.

    LINCT engaged with three sets of stakeholders in documentary making:
  • Film-makers
  • Broadcasters/ Commissioning Editors
  • Non-Broadcast sector

The last category, the non-broadcast sector, included NGOs, UN agencies, autonomous bodies.

    LINCT’s first set of activities was a series of moderated online conferences:
  • The residential conference in New Delhi from 16-21 November, 2009 was the on-site culmination point of LINCT. It was a platform of shared knowledge towards developing a dependable environ for future partnerships. , including investigating the start-up of an Internet-based platform
  • LINCT brought together European and Indian professional participants and trainers engaged in the audiovisual industry of documentary. The synergetic exchange of information about trade practice and potential markets opened dialogue for future co-operation for film-makers from Europe and India.
